Boeing joins US team investigating MH370 disappearance

Boeing released a statement yesterday confirming it has joined an official US team investigating the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which went off the radar en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on Saturday morning.

The company, which manufactured the missing 777-200 aircraft, said it would act as technical advisor  to the US National Transportation Safety Board team already in place in Southeast Asia, offering assistance to ongoing Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

The Boeing 777 model, a popular long-range, wide-body twin engine aircraft, has a solid safety record and has been one of the world’s most widely flown passenger jets since being introduced in 1995. Up until now, there has only been one fatal crash involving a 777.

In July 2013, a Boeing 777-200 operated by South Korea’s Asiana Airlines veered off the runway at San Francisco’s international airport, killing three.

Boeing said in a statement that it “continues to offer its thoughts and deepest concern to the families of those aboard Malaysia Airlines flight 370, which went missing on March 8.”
