Body found buried in backyard, police officer under arrest

Police have arrested one of their own after discovering a body buried in an officer’s backyard in the Tongkang Pechah neighborhood of Johor’s Batu Pahat.

Yesterday afternoon, area law enforcement began searching the unnamed officer’s residence in response to a missing person’s report that was filed earlier this month. A body was discovered shortly after 5:30pm.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Zulkifli Musa, was last seen by his wife on the eve of March 18, when he told her that he was stepping out. She later filed a report when he failed to return to their Kampung Tambak home.

Information gathered during subsequent investigations led officers to their fellow policeman’s home where the victim’s body was found.

“Investigators suspected something amiss after the policeman replied in a suspicious manner when quizzed over the victim’s disappearance.

“After further questioning, the policeman brought investigators to a fresh mound of red soil in his home’s backyard where the missing man’s remains were later found buried,” said Johor police chief Mohd Khalil to daily paper Malay Mail when contacted today.

No motive has been confirmed; however rumors have been circulating that the victim may have died of a drug overdose. The suspect and victim were reportedly friends, and the case is being investigated as murder.

The suspect has a previous drugs record, and tested positive for methamphtamine.
