Blogger forced to sing “Negaraku” to prove she’s Malaysian

How do you prove that you’re a Malaysian? Some sport ‘I Love PM’ stickers on their cars. Some eat nasi lemak everyday. But for this blogger, she was asked to sing.

Yeah, go figure.

In a posting on her Facebook page dated 8 May, blogger Raine Lee wrote she was in the car with her boyfriend when the police stopped them during a roadblock. It was a routine check, and her boyfriend was cleared after he showed the police his identification card. The police then got suspicious of Raine, and asked her for her identification card.

She failed to provide them with her IC as she had lost it two months ago and she hasn’t gotten a replacement yet. She then gave them her driving license instead.

However, the police didn’t believe her, insisting that she’s from China and the driving license was fake as she looked different in the picture.

“It’s nothing new to be honest, I always get accused of being from China or Thai A LOT not only from cops but from random strangers who have the nerve to come up to me & ASK,” she wrote in the posting, which has since been deleted.

So, how did the cops resolve the issue?

“I was forced to sing the freaking ‘Negaraku’ song,” she wrote.

Despite only being able to sing part of the national anthem, Raine said the police were kind enough to let her and her boyfriend go.

“Moral of the story: Learn the ‘Negaraku’ song & don’t be IC-less,” she added at the end of her post.

Boy, she must be Raine-Lee embarassed by the incident.
