Social media exploded with wisecracks and memes after news of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin being taken to hospital for diarrhea was released to the public.
The announcement from the prime minister’s office today spawned new hashtags – #PMCirit and #KerajaanCirit – as well as hilarious memes that have been used in tens of thousands of tweets taking a jab at the leader of the Perikatan Nasional government that has recently been pressured by royal rulers to reconvene parliament amid its poor handling of the pandemic. The hashtags were the result of wordplay on the Malay word for diarrhea – cirit-birit.
“I shit you not. Our PM’s office just released this statement saying our prime minister had diarrhoea. A pretty weird thing to announce really, I mean, I support our government’s transparency and openness, but not to this degree. And that’s why #KerajaanCirit is trending now,” a user said, including the official press statement in the post.
Another said: “I’ll be a complete joke if my MC stated diarrhoea as a reason to be absent from work. Work as usual, shit in between. #PMCirit.”
Others even suggested that the prime minister take the Chi Kit Teck Aun trustworthy diarrhea medication.
“Malaysia making international headlines with diarrhea. Face with tears of joy. Actually, our PM having diarrhea as YDPA asked him to open parliament asap. He’s currently anxious about losing his position. No need to be hospitalized la, here is Chi Kit Teck Aun to heal. #PMCirit #KerajaanCirit,” said @ItsKayToBeYou. The traditional remedy is known for treating stomach aches, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, and motion sickness.
The shitty news even went global after former Blink-182 punk rocker Tom Delonge reacted to it with a GIF of himself.
“Blink 182 now knows our Prime Minister has diarrhoea,” a tweet reacting to Delonge said. “The most sublime time to say ‘Enema of the State’ was their best album ever #KerajaanCirit.”

Netizens didn’t hold back on the memes either, including one who reacted with a photo of a man with fire blasting from his behind and the caption: “#PMCirit [Muhyiddin] realising he got a meeting with the Agong today.”
