A fire broke out yesterday in one of Kuala Lumpur’s largest shopping centers, Mid Valley Mega Mall.
After extinguishing the blaze, fire department officials believe the fire started with the fax machine in the adjacent room of a third-floor shop lot. No casualties were reported, although upon evacuating the mall, a woman slipped, fell and passed out in one of the mall corridors.
A witness told New Straits Times that he believes she may have fallen because “she panicked when she heard the smoke alarm go off.” She was sent to Universiti Malaya hospital for further treatment.
KL Fire and Rescue Department director, Khirudin Drahman told the press that a member of the public called in an emergency at 8.24pm, after mall fire alarms went off. Firefighters arrived 14 minutes later and swiftly put out the blaze.
Investigators were then able to determine that the fax machine in the side-room was the culprit for the fire. Stay safe: this is what happens when you try to mess with time machines, kids.
