Bilqis Hijjas, the dancer who was accused of dropping yellow Bersih 4 balloons at Pavilion shopping mall two years ago, has been discharged and acquitted. The incident occurred during an event attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, on Merdeka Day.

The balloons had four of the Bersih 4 demands written on them: fair elections, free media, better economy and the right to assemble. The accompanying Bersih rally had taken place that weekend, with what some have estimated was a 100,000-strong turnout.

Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail ruled that the defense was able to raise enough reasonable doubt in the case.

Bilqis had been charged with insulting with intent to provoke anger, and thus breaching peace by dropping the balloons from Level 5, at Pavilion shopping mall.

The offense carried a maximum fine of RM100 (US$25) upon conviction.
