Bersih 4.0 to proceed as planned, DBKL offer rejected

Looks like Bersih 4.0 is happening as planned.

The rally is expected to take place as scheduled on Aug 29 and 30 even without the green light from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

DBKL had, however, given the go-ahead for Bersih 4.0 to have their rallies at Padang Merbok a week after Merdeka Day celebrations.

The Star Online quotes Mayor Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz as saying that Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah had turned down the Padang Merbok offer.

Mohd Amin added that it would be fine for rally-goers to gather near Dataran Merdeka as long as it ‘did not cause any disturbance’.

“We’ll treat them as other normal civilians. As long as they behave and do not disturb the public or damage street fittings, we can accept that,” he was quoted as sauing.

About 500 enforcement officers would be on duty for the Merdeka Day celebration as well as the rally, he said.
