Benedict Cumberbatch, star of BBC’s Sherlock Holmes and villain Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, is on his way to host the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur on March 26.
The British actor has been on a roll with his cinematic roles of late, landing choice assignments as the voice of the titular evil dragon in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, playing infamous Wikileaks whistleblower Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, and Ford in last year’s Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave.
Joining Cumberbatch in KL will be actor, singer and stand-up comedian Jamie Foxx, who will be performing for the Laureus audience in Istana Budaya next Wednesday night. Foxx, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray, will be playing Electro in this summer’s Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Kuala Lumpur was a late replacement to play host to the prestigious Laureus awards ceremony after the organizing body decided to cancel initial plans to hold the awards in Rio de Janeiro.
But enough about Hollywood, the Laureus World Sports Awards are about outstanding athletes across the globe, and there will be no shortage of star on that front either. Tennis giant Rafael Nadal, actual giant and basketball icon LeBron James, and golfing great Tiger Woods are among this year’s nominees. Check out the comprehensive nomination video here:
