Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Azmin Ali confirmed yesterday what many had speculated on: should PKR patriarch and Pakatan Rakyat leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have contested and won the Kajang by-election on March 23, Anwar would have been installed as Selangor’s next Menteri Besar, replacing current MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, also of PKR.
“It was not a probability, it really was the mission to propel Anwar into the menteri besar’s seat,” he said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
To the question of whether Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar’s wife and his replacement as PKR candidate in the Kajang by-election, would be installed as Selangor MB should she win, Azmin replied: “We concentrate on winning Kajang first before any deliberations on that.”
Anwar Ibrahim was forced to step down as the PKR candidate for Kajang after his acquittal on the charge of sodomy was overturned by the Court of Appeal last week. He has been sentenced to five years in prison, and is in turn appealing the ruling.
