Now, Paralympians who made their countries proud can soar even higher with AirAsia.
Just like their able-bodied counterparts, all Asean Paralympians who won the gold medal at the ongoing Paralympics in Rio de Janerio will be entitled to free flights from AirAsia, its group CEO Tony Fernandes announced on Monday.
The AirAsia boss posted a photo featuring medal winners from Asean nations on his Instagram page on Monday, and in the caption, he wrote that all Gold medal winners would get free flights for life.
“Thought the Summer Olympics was amazing. But the Paralympics has showed me what determination is all about.
“Thanks guys and girls for giving all of us the spirit to never give up despite all the obstacles in front of us,” he wrote.
Fernandes also wrote that silver medallists would get free flights for five years while bronze medallists would get free flights for a three-year period.
At the moment, Malaysia has won three gold medals at the Paralympics.
Mohamad Ridzuan won the first gold medal for Malaysia in a world record-breaking time of 12.07 seconds in the men’s 100m T36 (cerebral palsy category) sprint.
Muhammad Ziyad also broke the world record en route to winning Malaysia’s second gold medal in the men’s shot put F20 (learning disability) event, hurling the iron ball 16.84m in his fifth attempt.
Malaysia’s third gold medal was won by Abdul Latif, who broke the world record three times (!!!) in the T20 men’s long jump event.
