Asean Olympic gold medalists get free AirAsia flights for life

All Asean athletes who won the gold medal at the recently-concluded Rio Olympic Games will get free AirAsia flights for life, according to its boss Tony Fernandes.

The group CEO said in on his Facebook page on Wednesday that the reward is for “making us dream and believe”.

“What an Olympics this was for Asean. AirAsia, which has its roots in Asean, wants to reward those who gave us so much joy.

“Also, they taught and reminded us never to give up on your dreams and never stop believing you can be the best in the world.

“Thank you to all the medallists for making us dream and believe,” he wrote on the social media site.

While gold medalists get free flights for life, silver and bronze medalists will also be rewarded, but Fernandes did not reveal what they will receive.

Those who won gold at the Olympic Games are Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling, Indonesian badminton duo Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad, and Thai weightlifters Sukanya Srisurat, Vietnamese sports shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh and Sopita Tanasan.

Malaysia, meanwhile, came home with four silver medals and a bronze.
