Army says monkeys stole normal letters, not confidential documents

The Malaysian army says that a group of  monkeys — earlier reported to have made off the secret military documents after attacking a postman at an army camp in Malacca  —had taken no confidential documents.

The Malay Mail Online, citing a statement sent to them, reported that the stolen letters contained no military secrets.

“The monkeys took normal postal letters. I would like to stress here that the Malaysian Armed Forces practises a strict procedure in delivering important letters,” army communications director Lt Col Khairuddin Ismail was quoted as saying.

The Star earlier today reported that a group of long-tailed macaques had grabbed documents from a postman on his rounds at the Terendak Camp two days ago.

The monkey were said to have climbed some trees and escaped with their ‘loot’ after injuring the 33-year-old postman, the report said.
