Are you a poor Malaysian? Become an Uber driver, says PM Najib

Malaysian PM Najib Razak might have found the solution to end poverty for good.

The prime minister has suggested that poor Malaysians, especially those in the B40 (Bottom 40) income group, should be Uber drivers.

He was quoted by The Malay Mail Online as saying after the tabling of the 2017 Budget last Friday that Malaysians who have their own vehicles to join the ride-sharing movement to earn extra income.

“To assist the B40 group, especially BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia) recipients, to generate additional income, the government will encourage their participation as ride-sharing drivers such as Uber drivers, particularly those who own vehicles,” he was quoted as saying.

PM Najib also explained that an ordinary Malaysian could earn as much as RM1,500 per month as part-time Uber drivers.

“Their income could reach up to RM1,500 per month for part time drivers working between 10 to 40 hours per week and RM4,300 if more than 40 hours per week,” he was further quoted as saying.

In fact, the government will help to make your dream as an Uber driver come true.

He told the news portal that Putrajaya would give out a RM4,000 rebate to those who do not have their own vehicles to purchase a Proton Iriz, and they could also use the BR1M government cash aid to pay for the downpayment.

“To those who do not own a vehicle, down payment will be made using BR1M and a rebate of RM4,000 will be provided for the purchase of Proton Iriz,”

Boy, we wonder what the ride-sharing-hating taxi drivers have to say about our dear Prime Minister’s suggestion.
