It’s been 11 years since his last trip down to Malaysia, but Oscar, Grammy and BAFTA-winning composer, producer and singer AR Rahman, arguably the biggest musical talent from India in a generation, is making his way back to Kuala Lumpur on April 26, and he’s promising a one-night only performance his legions of local fans are sure to never forget.
The man who rose up from wide acclaim in India and Asia to worldwide fame through his score for Slumdog Millionaire will bless Stadium Merdeka with a stop of his AR Rahman Infinite Love Live in Concert tour.
“I get so much support here from my fans, (for both) Tamil and Hindi music, so it’s going to be a great show,” he said at a press conference held on Feb 19 to promote his A.R. Rahman Infinite Love Live In Concert show.
With his last Kuala Lumpur live performance having been in 2003, Rahman said he was very excited to present his new work to fans in Malaysia this time around.
“When we rehearse our show, it feels ordinary, but each individual watching the show makes it different. Each city we perform in is a different experience,” he said.
Joining him for the three-and-a-half-hour concert will be a star-studded list of Indian musical talent, such as Mohit Chauhan, Javed Ali, Mano, Chitra, Vijay Prakash, Neeti Mohan, Harshdeep Kaur and Shweta Pandit, as well as a 78-piece music ensemble.
Rahman’s performance is expected to feature a mix of his classic hits and more recent chart-toppers in both Hindi and Tamil, and a Qawalli segment with Sufi devotional music and an electronic dance music section.
The AR Rahman Infinite Love Live in Concert Kuala Lumpur is supported by Malaysia Major Events. Tickets ranging from RM98 to RM1499 will be available at www.dmllive.com from tomorrow, 3pm onwards. A 15% early bird discount applies to ticket purchases in the first three weeks of sale.
