Anti-crime activist Sri R Sanjeevan was today charged at the Seremban magistrate’s court with blackmail.
The New Straits Times reports that the 32-year-old Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman pleaded not guilty to the crime as well as to a separate charge of employing illegal foreign workers.
He was accused to extorting RM25,000 from Hon Goh Toh, 38, as protection money, at the Nilai toll plaza at 10.45pm on June 22, the daily reported.
If found guilty of this charge under Section 384 of the Penal Code, he can be jailed a maximum of 10 years, fines or whipped.
He was also charged under the Immigration Act, with hiring a foreign worker Manivannan Muthukumar, who did not have a valid working pass. For this, Sanjeevan faces a maximum jail term of 12 months, a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or both.
