Another incident of a student being beaten at his religious school has been reported in the Harian Metro today. The boy, whose school is in Shah Alam, sustained injuries to his arms and ribs. He was beaten by the hostel warden on his school.
The violence occurred at 5pm, on 10 May, after the child was called to see the warden, who is also a teacher, at the school. The warden alleges that after disciplinary questioning, the victim denied wrongdoing. As a result, he was beaten with a cane, as well as punched in the ribs.
The boy reportedly called his father, who took him to a nearby clinic for medical attention. The following day the pair went to the Section 9 police station and filed a report against the warden. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
The father has asked that he and the son not be named, and has said the boy has been removed from the school. He does say that this is not the first incident of traumatic violence being used by the perpetrator. The warden has apologized and told the family he will bear the costs of medical treatment.
Malaysians across the country are still recovering from the news and photos late last month of the violent beating eleven-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi suffered. The country watched as doctors were unable to save his life, and mourned the senseless death of a child at the hands of a religious school assistant warden.
Another incident, another wake-up. Parents: listen to your children, before it’s too late. Stay alert for signs of physical violence at the hands of individuals that you’ve entrusted your children to.
