Hacking movement Anonymous Malaysia has declared an all-out cyberwar against the Federal Government helmed by Prime Minister Najib Razak, vowing to use all its resources to cripple Putrajaya’s online mouthpieces in support of this month’s #BERSIH4 street demonstration on August 29 and 30.
In a video posted to the group’s YouTube page and pushed through its official Facebook account, Anonymous Malaysia decries the USD700 million (RM2.6 billion) transferred into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts in 2013, revealed by The Wall Street Journal on July 2 in connection to its reporting on sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Anonymous Malaysia also posted the following statement:
The video has since been taken down, but FB account Tabik Polis has extracted it and reposted the video on its own page:
The group claims it will enlist the assistance of worldwide Anonymous hacker cells in its “all-out war” against Putrajaya’s online portals, and will launch its attacks on the websites for 1MDB, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), and Najib’s official site NajibRazak.com, on the day and time of the #BERSIH4 demonstration: 2.30pm, August 29.
Anonymous Malaysia called on Najib to step down from his post as Prime Minister by that date, and threatened to carry out an even more extensive cyberattack on the government’s online presence within 48 hours of the start of #BERSIH4.
Bersih 2.0, the organisers of the rally at the end of the month, has not indicated that it is working in tandem with Anonymous Malaysia, or that it is even aware of this show of solidarity from the group.
