Former Langkawi Wanita UMNO member Anina Saaduddin, fresh from being sacked from her party position for suing UMNO president and Prime Minister Najib Razak, has now filed suit against party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor for sacking her.
Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdullah, the lawyer representing Anina, confirmed that a suit was filed on her behalf against Tengku Adnan, popularly known as Ku Nan, for signing off Anina’s membership termination letters.
Anina is also suing UMNO executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh.
“It’s basically a suit to get the necessary declarations to nullify the purported termination of her membership in Umno by Tengku Adnan through the letters of September 2 and September 1,” Mohamed Haniff told The Malay Mail Online‘s Ida Lim.
On August 28, Anina filed a suit against Najib at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, seeking on behalf of UMNO to claim a USD650 million cut of the USD681 million (RM2.6 billion) donation transferred into Najib’s personal bank accounts in 2013, two months before the 13th General Elections.
Najib and his defenders have described the money transfer as a donation from a “friendly Middle Eastern nation” meant to assist the ruling Malay party win the 13th General Elections, and to reward the Najib administration for its efforts in combatting regional threats from Islamic State (ISIS).
Ab Rauf last week stated that Anina was terminated from the party automatically, as UMNO party regulations prohibit bringing internal party issues to court.
In her statement of claim today, Anina claimed that Tengku Adnan had issued two letters to terminate her membership, with one dated September 2 issued on September 1, and another dated September 1 issued on September 2.
She said that the release of the letters to th media and to the public even before she herself was served with them, as well as the allegedly unclear and contradictory contents of the letters, rendered them “defective and invalid”.
The issuing of the letters are against Articles 5, 8, 10(1)(a) and 10(1)(c) of the Federal Constitution, she claimed.
She said she was not given an opportunity to defend herself, also claiming that the two letters were issued as an afterthought and in bad faith to undermine her suit against Najib.
