This is what she gets for helping out.
A 68-year-old former medical assistant in Kedah who has dedicated her life to taking care of stray animals says her neighbours are using harassment tactics to get her out of her current premises in Alor Star because they do not approve of her activities in the one-acre property she owns.
It’s a noble thing she’s doing.
“I have an acre of land that accommodates some 700 stray animals. I feed and care for them, including when sick and wounded,” Halijah Idris told The Sun Daily. Her work has been noticed by the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya, who gave her an award in January.
According to the report, the entrance to Paki Mie Shelter had been blocked two weeks before the Chinese New Year by unknown individuals. Mak Intan, as she is called, also received a letter from the land office, it said.
“I will seek the local authorities’ help next week because I’m afraid of the danger that they may cause to the strays. They are like my own children,” she is quoted in the report.
