Humans were not the only victims of the flash floods that wreaked havoc in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.
Animal shelter owner Asrol Adizar mourned the loss of five animals he said had died due to the floods. He took to social media to express his grief, saying that the flood took place when he wasn’t at the shelter, which was also his home.
“The flash floods happened when I wasn’t at home. I’ve lived here for three years and haven’t seen a flood worse than this. All I could think of were my children (the cats and dogs),” the caption said. He added that another two animals had gone missing.
A photo he shared showed at least three cats that had died.

According to his Facebook account, Asrol runs The Transpawter shelter for stray cats and dogs located in the Kajang district on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
Several places in Selangor including Gombak and Klang were stricken by flash floods over the weekend, submerging vehicles, and disconnecting electrical supply.
Nearly 300 flood victims were evacuated to temporary shelters where they would stay until their homes recovered from damages.
Photos and videos posted by Asrol showed him making his way back home in waist-level floodwater, and crying in grief as he entered the partially submerged shelter that roughly had 30 animals.
Some of the cats were still in their cages but a few others managed to climb their way to higher ground. A number of dogs were seen in the backyard with the water up to their necks.
The videos also showed parts of cages floating on the surface and furniture submerged in floodwater.
The animals that didn’t make it were named Joker, Goblin, Putih, Dik Chik dan Baby Boo. The two others that went missing were named Manja and Jagger.
“Hang on my children,” Asrol could be heard saying in one of the videos, as he rushed into his home to check on his animals.
In a message to Jagger, Asrol said: “If you’re still alive, please come back. Daddy will buy you a new mattress. If you’re not alive anymore, at least let me find your body so I can bury it safely.”
Many residents had described the floods as the worst Kajang had seen in five years.
The heavy rain started on Saturday evening, by night, water levels had risen up to residents’ waists. The downpour only stopped past midnight.
