Police announced early this morning that officers tasked with counting the cash that was seized from the upscale Pavilion Residences last week have finally tallied up the currencies.

Turns out it takes a whole team to count up to the RM130 million (US$32.6million) in cold, hard cash discovered by police.

Calculations began Monday morning, with Bukit Aman saying that it took several police investigators, with the assistance of Bank Negara officers, “long hours” to count through the 35 bags of cash taken among the 284 boxes that were seized from three luxury condos.

Each note that was seized in the operations was individually handled, recorded, and counted, with investigators dealing in more than one currency.

The goods taken by officers were in relation to on-going investigations into 1MDB.

In addition to the casually stuffed bags of money that were being stored in the condos, cops found dozens of boxes, filled with designer handbags, watches, and jewelry. Many of the boxes taken were from luxury bag purveyor Hermes.

Police have yet to announce the value in the goods, saying it will take some time due to the insane volume of stuff that was seized.

Sources have said that the jewelry is valued in the region of RM200 million (US$40 million); however, police will engage with a third-party appraiser to calculate the value of the other items.

Revelations and photographs of police operations were made public Friday, after police raided six locations all related to the former PM Najib, including the Prime Minister’s Office, his official residence, and other auxiliary locations throughout the Klang Valley.
