A messy love triangle and a revenge plot reportedly led to the tragic death of a 25-year-old man.
According to a report by The Star Online, Tan Chuen Take was believed to have been murdered after he had reportedly tried to court another man’s girlfriend.
Tan, who worked as an oil and gas engineer in Singapore, had reportedly gone missing on June 26 after he was last seen in his housing area’s CCTV recording leaving his house in Johor Baru around 5pm the day before.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd told the news portal that a couple, aged 22 and 32, was arrested in Kulai at 3am on Friday.
The arrest, said Comm Wan Ahmad, led to the discovery of Tan’s body at around 6pm. The victim’s body was reportedly buried in a forest near Kulai, just beside the Second Link Expressway.
“The couple abducted the victim without asking for a ransom from his family, and we believe that the motive for the abduction and murder was jealousy and revenge,” he was quoted as saying.
The victim’s remains were sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for a post mortem. Initial investigations revealed that Tan’s body was found with wounds and burn marks.
Comm Wan Ahmad told The Star that the couple was remanded to help with investigations into the kidnapping and murder.
