The rains have returned to the Klang Valley, and we’ve since been having cleaner air and far fewer bush fires. But one thing the rain hasn’t been able to do is to replenish KL and Selangor’s water supply, according to the National Water Sevices Commission (SPAN).
SPAN stands by its earlier directive to implement Phase 3 of water rationing exercises for KL, Putrajaya and Selangor until March 31, despite the rainfall that these areas had received.
“The rain we’ve received since March 16 hasn’t raised the water levels of the main dams significantly. According to our records, the highest amount of rain at the Sungai Selangor Dam, the main supply source of water in the state of Selangor, was only 6.73mm, on March 16,” SPAN said in a statement.
The statement also said that the water levels at seven other Selangor dams are also still receding.
Syarikats Bekalan Air Selangot Sdn Bhd (Syabas) will continue implementing water rationing exercises until a conrtary decision is made by SPAN and the Selangor state government.
