Listen up flaky users of Malaysia’s most popular ride hailing app, Grab – they will soon be charging you not only for your cancellations, but also that extra time that you have left your driver waiting.
In a recent update to their Passenger Cancellation Policy, they have clarified that passengers have five minutes between making the booking and terminating it for whatever reason. Should they exceed the five-minute grace period, they can expect to pay a fee, ranging anywhere between RM3 (US$0.70) and RM5 (US$1.25).
For users of GrabCar, GrabTaxi (metered or executive) and JustGrab to KLIA or KLIA2, the cancellation fee is RM3. Six-seater GrabCar or 10-seater JustGrab, will be RM4, and services like GrabCar Premium or GrabCar Luxe will charge RM5.
Passengers will also be charged a full RM5 should their driver wait longer than five minutes, and has to cancel on their end.
GrabShare users will have three minutes to arrive at their designated waiting point.
Drivers are required to wait the full three to five minutes before canceling.
The company says that the cancellation fee will be waived if a driver does not arrive within 10 minutes after the first-shown estimated time of arrival. Basically, if your guy goes from being five minutes away, and still isn’t there 20 minutes later, you’re free to choose an alternative method of transport without getting fined.
Despite appearances for anyone ever waiting at KLIA2 during peak hours for their Grab, their PR machine is also assuring customers that they have the tech to detect whether a driver is moving towards you, or like you know – sitting in the same spot for 30 minutes.
