ALERT! Damansara bank robber, aka Floorplan Man, has been caught

Urban folk hero, mythical smooth talker, and stealth mover, Floorplan Man has been caught.

Time to pour one out for our fallen homie.

Three weeks after his unbelievable story of stealing RM600,000 (US$215,000) from a bank while casually walking around restricted areas under the guise of being fire extinguisher technician, a man in his 30’s has been arrested in Malacca. He was apprehended by police at 7:00pm last night.

Police sources tell The Sun that only part of the stolen chunk of bank change was recovered. We like to think he’s spent the last 3 weeks ordering an appetizer AND dessert.

Investigators arrived in the area from Kuala Lumpur to investigate a tip-off (or as it’s referred to on the inside, snitch) from the public regarding a man who seemed to have disappeared into thin air for law enforcement.

Early reports indicate the suspect is married with a wife and kids.

Last month, we reported that the gentleman had pulled off the incredible feat of robbing a Damansara Heights bank wearing shorts and a golf shirt, carrying only a floorplan as his identification.

Entering the bank at 12:30pm, he was calm and confident, and told employees he was there to service the fire extinguishers. He asked to be allowed into a restricted area, showing them a piece of paper that appeared to be a floor plan of the bank.

CCTV cameras showed him loitering around the branch, and later sneaking through a door to behind the bank’s counter. Cameras also showed him casually chatting with staff, including the chief cashier.

He pretended to check extinguishers, all the while creeping closer to the bank’s safe room, accessible only to the bank’s manager and chief cashier. When the chief cashier walked into the room, the thief used a magnet to prevent the latch from automatically locking.

When the cashier left, the man calmly went into the room, stuffed wads of cash totaling over RM600,000 into his backpack, and cool as ever, walked out of the bank.

The sun sets for all hero outlaws. We can’t believe you made it this far, sir. Hats off to you.

He has been accused of a string of crimes over the last two years, all using the same modus operandi of coming into varying businesses to check air conditioners/electricity/water. He would calmly ask to look around, and once granted access, he would simply take exposed money and electronics.

Sounds like there’s a book and/or movie in here somewhere.
