AirAsia now bans hoverboards from its flights, too

Just a day after Malindo Air announced that it would no longer allow passengers to check in hoverboards, Segways, electric scooters, and other “electric personal movement” equipment, AirAsia has followed suit with a similar ban.

A statement issued by the world’s most popular budget carrier today said that all lithium battery-powered personal movement devices would be barred from being brought on board AirAsia and AirAsia X flights as either check-in or carry-on luggage, effective December 30.

As with Malindo Air’s ban, AirAsia will no longer allow passengers to bring hoverboards, Segways, Mini Wheels, electric scooters, and electric bicycles on board their flights, but makes exceptions to electric wheelchairs and other medical mobility devices weighing not more than 85kg.

Passengers who plan on bringing devices powered by lithium batteries are encouraged to refer to AirAsia’s guidelines on such gadgets on its official website
