Agong goes viral in social media clip stopping motorcade to speak to accident victim

Well, we have a new sheriff in town for the next five years, with last week’s installation of the new Agong, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, following the abdication of his predecessor, the recently divorced Sultan of Kelantan.

While it’s still early days, the King is already making an impact on social media, after a short clip of him stopping his motorcade to check on an accident victim was posted to the Istana Negara (National Palace’s) official Instagram account.

Palace officials speaking to local media have explained that the incident occurred Monday morning, when the Agong’s motorcade happened on a Toyota Vios that had collided with a guardrail. The accident happened along the slip road, off Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur.

Dressed in full regalia, the Agong is seen exiting the car, along with several uniformed officers, to ask the woman if she is alright, and to chat with her briefly.

After establishing that she was unhurt, he returned to the car, where his wife was waiting, as the two were en route to an event at the Royal Museum.

This isn’t the first time that Sultan Abdullah has been seen showing his concern for fellow motorists: He stopped to help an accident victim on June 26 on his way to a meeting with Prime Minister Mahathir.
