After the shocking discovery that photos of him and his infant child had been included in a pornographic website, comedian Harith Iskander has come out stating that he refuses to be intimidated by the actions of creeps online.
Despite numerous people offering their support and advising him to step back from online social media by refraining to upload photos depicting his family, Harith is adamant that he wants to carry on as he always has.
“Some people are saying, don’t put up pictures of your kids. But I come from a generation where we could run out and play openly on the streets, get into scrapes, and learn from each fall,” he said after lodging a report on the matter at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station, as quoted by The Malaysian Insider‘s Anisah Shukry.
“I’m not going to hide away my children, I trust them, and I know that these things do happen and we can’t run away from it. So it’s better to try and catch these perpetrators, instead of hiding from them.”
He urged parents to be aware of online pitfalls and to educate their children to do the same, but argued against becoming overprotective in the process.
“My principle is that we shouldn’t be afraid of what is happening out there. Of course as parents we must protect our kids, but not to the point that we hide them away from the rest of the world, not allow them to explore.
“I enjoy seeing my friends’ family pictures, and I want to share mine with them as well. I won’t let these things stop me.
“So I won’t advise people to stop uploading pictures of their kids. Teach them how dangerous the world can be, how to be careful, how to say know, but don’t be too overprotective. My dad always let me fall and learn from the experience.”
