After COVID-19 scare, Rapid KL says trains ‘disinfected daily’

A major public transport operator assured passengers yesterday that its trains undergo daily disinfection after it was confirmed that two of its employees working on the Kelana Jaya LRT line tested positive for COVID-19.

Rapid KL, which operates lines in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, said in a statement that cleaning occurred twice daily and said its two workers had been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

“The trains undergo daily disinfection and cleaning every day during peak hours and after operating hours,” it said.

Both employees were last on duty Dec. 12 and 13, respectively. They did not come into close contact with passengers, according to the rail operator. The Kelana Jaya line spans 37 stations across 46 kilometers, from Putra Heights in Subang to Gombak in Kuala Lumpur. 

“They have no contact with passengers,” Rapid KL added. “Those who worked closely with them have been sent for swab tests and will be isolated in their homes for 14 days.”

The train operator also disinfected and cleaned the areas where the COVID-19 patients had worked. “We did additional disinfection and cleaning at the areas where our staff worked according to the guidelines set by the Health Ministry.”
