Of all the ways to get insulted on an Air Asia flight, seeing your profession belittled on an advertisement taped to the back of your flight seat is probably one of the more unexpected ones.
The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has chastised Air Asia for the advertisements the budget carrier has placed on the back of its aircraft seats, which describes nurses as being “lousy”.
The ads are for Tune Insurance, a sister company of Air Asia, with a tagline saying, “You want your momma, because you are in the hospital with lousy nurses”.
Yeah, we don’t get it either.
MMA president Datuk NKS Tharmaseelan condemned the ad, saying any advertisement that belittles a legitimate profession is offensive.
“Such an advertisement gives the idea that Malaysian nurses are lousy and it is painting a bad image of the profession as a whole which is grossly unfair.”
Air Asia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes saidd he would personally take up the matter with Tune Insurance Holdings.
“It is a stupid advertisement and I have taken it up with AirAsia’s chief executive officer Aireen Omar who informed me the advertisement will be removed,” he said in a text message to The Malay Mail.
“We have set up additional controls to ensure that this is not repeated.”
An AirAsia spokesman gave the assurance the advertisement would be removed immediately.
