Accident involving tanker blocks three lanes on Karak Highway

An oil tanker skidded and crashed into a road divider at KM33 of the Genting Sempah-Gombak route on the Karak Highway on Tuesday evening, according to a report by The New Straits Times.

As a result, traffic along the highway came to a standstill as the oil tanker’s wreckage blocked all three lanes.

Only the emergency lane was reportedly accessible for regular vehicles.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman told the daily that the driver was believed to have lost control of the heavy vehicle due to the slippery road in the 5.30pm incident.

No casualties were reported in the accident, the spokesman added.

“We believe the driver lost control of the tanker and hit the divider. Thankfully, there was no fire,” he was quoted as saying.
