Illegal racing in Balik Pulau put to a screeching halt

Their ‘dreams’ of becoming popular street racers ala ‘Fast & Furious’ came to a premature end when they were busted by the police.

Bernama reports that 20 drivers, who have been causing a ruckus with their illegally-modified cars, were arrested by the cops during a special operation early Sunday morning.

Southwest Traffic Enforcement Chief ASP Mohamad KA Razak told the news agency that the drivers were reportedly caught racing at Jalan Teluk Bahang heading towards Balik Pulau.

The special operation, codenamed Ops Khas, was conducted at 1am by 15 officers after police received complaints from the public that such activities were a norm during the weekends, said ASP Mohamad Razak.

“They had complained that their sleep had been interrupted by the loud car noises,” he was quoted by Bernama of saying.

According to the report, early investigations revealed that one of the drivers did not have a valid driving license. His car was  reportedly seized.

The report also highlighted that some 10 cars were seized because they were found to be illegally modified and did not meet the specifications set by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
