Selamat Hari Merdeka Malaysians, and guess what? 98.3% of us strongly identify with the statement “I’m proud to be a Malaysian,” according to the socially inquisitive agency KAJIDATA, who asked 1,041 registered voters.

This is 3% up from 2017, and a clear indicator that when given the option of being Malaysian, or being Malaysian, we’ll resign ourselves to our jus soli. That’s Latin for ‘right of soil.’ Here at Coconuts KL, we like you to walk around with a little more knowledge, TREAT ‘YOSELF … to knowledge.

The survey, conducted mid-July also revealed that we Malaysians are a patriotic bunch, with 80.2% planning on celebrating tomorrow’s National Day, and calling the holiday “meaningful.”

While we’re 98.3% proud to be Malaysian, only 80% want to actually fulfill this statement living IN Malaysia – 12.2% say they intend to migrate.

And so, another 124 citizens flock to Australia, to do great things, like win Masterchef, become the country’s 49th richest man, or just like, you know, live illegally.

KAJIDATA conducted their study via telephone, with a random sample of Malaysian registered voters. Their mission is to acquire data, and then produce actionable insights.

So then maybe, just maybe, we can decrease that Aussie bounce rate. Keep some of the winners here.
