An overwhelming 95.7 per cent of those who answered a recent survey by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) agreed that it is important for Malaysians to be proficient in the English language.
The Malay Mail‘, quoting a source close to the survey, reported that 190,000 people had responded to the seven-question survey that made the rounds earlier this month.
The survey had asked respondents for their views on the use of English as the medium of teaching for other subjects as well as the importance of the language when it came to employment and workforce.
The Malay Mail quoted its source as saying that the full results of the survey would not be made public ‘as it was meant for planning future programmes to improve the command of English among Malaysians’.
