6,000 laid off MAS staff to get Outplacement Centre

The 6,000 Malaysia Airlines employees due to be retrenched as part of the national carrier’s drastic restructuring exercise will have an Outplacement Centre (OPC) ready and waiting to help them transition out of their careers with the airline.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah), which is spearheading MAS’s restructuring, will set up the OPC with the aim of providing retrenched employees all relevant and required support, including professional, emotional and financial assistance as they move on to the next stage of their careers.

The OPC would operate under the auspices of the Corporate Reskilling Centre (CRC), and would cover such areas as retirement planning, career guidance and counselling, linkages to possible recruiters and partnerships with potential statutory bodies.

A source tells Bernama that the OPC would help transition MAS employees identified under three cateogries: early retirees, job seekers, and potential entrepreneurs.

The source added that the categorisation process for outgoing staff was being carried out by human resource professionals who are currently looking into the jo requirements post-restructuring.

“Having a third party to do this will eliminate biasness and favouritism, taking into account the proper principles of fairness, transparency and compassion,” he said.

The OPC is a new concept in Malaysia, the source said, and is the first holistic and comprehensive plan to help affected staff transition to new jobs.
