The cheques will indeed be in the mail for almost 5 million Malaysians tomorrow, as the second round of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) cash payments this year will commence, the Finance Ministry said.
The payments being handed out tomorrow will cover 4.65 milion recipients, including 141,670 people who had filed appeals for their eligibility, Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah told The Malaysian Insider.
During last year’s tabling of Budget 2015, the Federal Government had decided to spread out BR1M payments this year over three stages. The first payout was conducted on January 15.
BR1M recipients who earn RM3,000 or less a month will be eligible to receive RM950; those who earn between RM3,000 and RM4,000 a month will receive RM750; and recipients who are single, aged 21 and above and earn under RM2,000 monthly will receive RM350.
Ahmad Husni added that the Federal Government is also introducing te Death Benefit Scheme (SKK) which offers RM1,000 to the benificiaries of eligible BR1M recipients who have passed away.
More than 16,000 SKK claims have been approved to date.
While most of the BR1M payments will be deposited directly into the designated bank accounts of eligible recipients, those who do not have bank accounts will receive letters of approval, which can be redeemed for their cash payment at any branch of Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Maybank, CIMB, or Public Bank.
