Three men were arrested for assaulting an Australian man near a nightclub in Kuala Lumpur on September 23.
The nightclub is located on Jalan Tun Razak, a generally busy and safe road where post-clubbing fights rarely occur.
A video of the altercation that quickly became viral on social media showed the bleeding victim being battered by a group of five to six guys before finally collapsing.
According to Ashari Abu Samah, the police chief of Wangsa Maju district, a report was made on September 23 at 4:54 am.
He said the group comprised both Malaysians and foreigners.
He stated that the victim had slashes on his neck, torso, and hand because one of the suspects allegedly used a sharp object.
“The victim was taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where he is in a stable condition,” he said in a statement.
Ashari said the brawl is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon, which provides for a five-year jail sentence, a fine, or both, if found guilty.
The three guys who were detained, according to Ashari, ranged in age from 20 to 30 and have been held without bail until September 27.
