218,000 visitors to Zoo Negara since the arrival of giant pandas

The two giant pandas brought in from China – Fu Wa and Feng Yi – are rockstars as far as tourist figures at Zoo Negara go.

The Parliament heard that since the arrival of these cuddly symbols of goodwill between China and Malaysia in June, almost 218,000 people have visited the national zoo.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel was quoted by the Malay Mail Online as saying that a little more than half of these visitors had forked out extra money to see the pandas in the last three months.

He also said that Zoo Negara projects the number of tourists for next year to go up from 500,000 to 1.3 million.
