21 deaths so far in flood-ravaged east coast states

Police have tallied a total of 21 fatalities in the east coast staes of Kelantan, Teregganu and Pahang over the course of the year-end flood crisis, while 10 people from those statescare still missing.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said Kelantan had the most deaths by far with 14, with four persons missing, while Terengganu followed with four deaths and five missing. Pahang had three deaths and one missing. 

He told Bernama that he had directed 9,880 of his officers from affected districts and personnel from outside to assist flood victims. 

“Twenty-four police stations are affected by the floods with 19 stations in Kelantan, four in Terengganu and one in Perak.

“Six police reports have also been lodged involving theft during the floods. Police have deployed additional personnel in locations where we expect shop break-ins and so on to occur,” he added.
