#1MDB: The Edge bosses to be summoned to Bukit Aman again

Chairman Tong Kooi Ong and publisher Ho Kay Tat of The Edge Media Group will once again be summoned to face the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in Bukit Aman to give their statements.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said today that the two were supposed to have their statements taken earlier today, but had to postpone due to a family emergency.

“We were informed that Tong’s mother had passed away and we will reschedule it,” he said at Bukit Aman, as quoted by The Star Online‘s Austin Camoens.

Abu Bakar added that both Tong and Ho were required to give their statements on The Edge‘s reports on sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) following his meeting with Thai police officials in Bangkok last week.

“During the meeting, I was briefed in detail by Royal Thailand Police Commissioner Gen Somyot Pumpunmuang on investigations into Swiss national Andre Xavier Justo.

“He gave me details including Justo’s confession to Thai police which we will use to incorporate into our investigations here,” Abu Bakar said.

The publishing permits for The Edge‘s daily and weekly editions were suspended for three months from July 27 onwards, due to the newsportal’s exposés of alleged misconduct within 1MDB.

The Edge Media Group on Monday initiated an application for a judicial review to be held by Malaysian courts, in the hopes the suspension would be overturned.
