150 deaths in 10 days of Op Selamat

Op Selamat — the traffic operation launched on Feb 12 — has recorded 150 deaths since it launched on Feb 12. These fatalities were among the 11,867 accidents that happened during the period.

Federal traffic chief, SAC Datuk Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff told Bernama that motorcyclists were the highest in road fatalities with 92 deaths, followed by cars with 36 deaths. Eleven pedestrian deaths were also among the cases recorded.

Broken down by state, the figures revealed Johor as the region with the highest number of deaths (27) followed by Selangor with 23 and Perak with 22, Mohd Fuad said.

More than 180,000 summonses were issued during the operation for an assortment of traffic offences.
