The Immigration Department has sacked 15 of its officers for their alleged involvement in sabotaging the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).
The New Straits Times‘ Fazleena Aziz reports that they were among the 37 officers slapped with disciplinary action.
Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Sakib Kusmi told the daily that the department has also suspended 14 employees and imposed a freeze on salary increment for eight officers.
“All the officers and staff involved in the disciplinary action are from various support level service schemes, stationed at the main entrance gates into Malaysia,” Sakib was quoted as saying.
Sakib also added that the department is currently in the midst of transferring 63 officers and while 20 more will be facing displinary action soon.
“We will also be implementing the snake queue (immigration check queue) at the arrival and departure gates in the Kuala Lumpur International Aiport (KLIA),” he was quoted further.
Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told The Star Online that about 100 people were suspected of sabotaging the myIMMs for financial gains.
