139 people died over the course of Ops Selamat so far

Ops Selamat, the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) campaign to oversee, manage and reduce traffic accidents nationwide during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season, has seen a total of 139 casualties in its first eight days, resulting from 127 fatal accidents.

Federal traffic police chief SAC Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff told Bernama that his forces recorded a total of 10,349 accidents during the operation’s first eight days. 

“A total of 117,957 summons were issued to traffic offenders while 1,598 summons were issued to offenders using the emergency lanes,” he said yesterday.

Ops Selamat will officially end on August 4.
