11 liquor stores in Brickfields to close shop, to lower violent crimes in the area

Brickfields residents out for a good time after hours might have to look a litle harder and a bit further out than their regular haunts soon, as 11 liquor stores in the neighbourhood will be shut down after their operating licenses expire this year.

The Federal Territories Ministry decided to not renew the shops’ licences to lower the rate of violent incidents and alcohol-related pety crimes in Brickfields, Tamil-language newspaper Malaysia Nanban reports.

The liquor stores were reportedly notified of their imminent shutdown by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) as early as April 10, after a meeting was held between DBKL, the PDRM, and the Customs Department on the matter.

Well … there’s always Bangsar, right next door. Cheers.
