Measures are in place to ensure smooth traffic and public safety for this year’s Thaipusam celebrations in KL. 1,000 police officers will be tasked to ensure public safety and prevent holiday-related crime beginning tomorrow, and the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) Komuter train service will run for 24 hours a day for five days beginning Thursday.
The PDRM will commit its officers to conduct patrols and surveillance to prevent car break-ins, robberies, fights and snatch thefts in the run up to Thaipusam, according to Selangor police chief Datuk Shukri Dahlan. The Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and Police Air Unit will also be deployed.
KTMB General Manager Hider Mohd Yusoff said the railway has committed 405 additional runs for the Thaipusam season, with an average frequency of 15 to 30 minutes per Komuter train at every station for the following lines: Rawang to Sungai Gadut; Sungai Gadut to Rawang; Batu Caves to Port Klang; and from Port Klang to Batu Caves. 500 KTMB staff will be on hand to ensure the Komuter runs smoothly throughout the festive season.
Every year, the Thaipusam celebrations brings more than half a million people to scale the 272 steps of the Hindu temple in Batu Caves.
