Whether you believe it or not, our fate is written in the stars.

That’s according to tarot card reader and astrologer Sarah May Low, 32, who Coconuts spoke to recently to get the deets on what we can expect from 2021 as we move on from this godawful year. But will next year be better?

From Aries to Pisces, Low is hopeful that 2021 would be more stable for everyone. For most signs, the stars tell Low that 2021 would be the year for self-love, patience, and letting go of the past. Some people born in the middle of the year may even enter parenthood, Low said.

With more than a decade of experience flipping through people’s destinies, Low also teaches tarot reading at a school in Puchong, Selangor, and counts Snapchat, accounting firm Pwc, and major insurance company AIA among her clients.

For those still unclear about the trendy pseudoscience that has been around for centuries, astrology involves looking to the stars to understand human behavior and events. Through tarot cards, readers also claim that they can gain insight into a person’s past, present, or future by interpreting cards handpicked from a deck of 78 pieces, usually designed with old European illustrations.

Whatever your stance is on such practices, these readings can be entertaining and fun. Here’s to a fantastic 2021!

Aries

Can’t wait to get your hands on a new car or a house? Those born under the Aries sign may want to exercise some patience in 2021, especially when it comes to managing their finances.

Low picked out the “Strength” card when it came to reading to the Aries, which she associates with impulsive shoppers, as well as the “Ten of Pentacles” card, which further supports her prediction that those under this sign should practice self-restraint when it comes to making purchases.

“If they want something, they’ll get it today, if not yesterday,” Low said. “The Strength card means patience. For Aries, they need to understand that they can’t get everything they want immediately, even if they have their plans. Sometimes it’s the universe’s timing.”

Regarding the other card, she said: “Aries are also known to be impulsive in their buying habits, this card is telling them to be patient too, when it comes to that,” she said.

Taurus

It’s going to be a tough year for those born under the Taurus sign, so it is best to reach out for help where possible.

Low pulled out three cards that altogether showed that people under this sign should try their best to seek help and support for whatever situations they are in. The cards were: Knight of Cups, King of Cups, and King of Swords.

“Whatever Taurus signs are wanting to do, don’t do it alone, seek help,” Low said. “While Taurus signs may be independent beings, the energy for next year is to seek help in whatever you do.”

“At the end of the day, no man is an island,” she added.

Gemini

It’s going to be a year of big changes for those born under the Gemini sign, according to Low, who picked out the “Empress” card, which symbolizes abundance, motherhood, and pregnancy.

“For Geminis next year, they might become a mom or a dad if they’re planning for it. They may also get married,” she said, advising Geminis to also find activities to ground themselves after picking out the “Knight of Pentacles” card.

“Grounding activities like yoga and hiking during the full moon can help,” she said.

Cancer

Cancerians, have you been stuck in a rut lately? Well, it’s time to restructure yourself.

When it came to those born under the Cancer sign, Low drew out the “Eight of Pentacles” card in reverse, which shows a carpenter busy at work. This meant that individuals will have to rethink their lives in order to do better, Low said.

“Cancer signs really need to restructure or fix their life in the coming year,” Low said. “For example, they may need more qualifications or skills to advance in their career. If they’re seeking a suitor, they may need to update their looks or online dating profiles.”

Leo

For those born under the Leo sign, it’s time to cut out all the toxic people that had been lingering in your life longer than they should. It’s going to be a difficult task for prideful Leos, but it has to be done, Low said after picking out the “Seven of Swords” card.

“When your friends don’t want to support your dreams and are being toxic towards you, you need to cut them off,” Low said. “There’s a lot of gossip going around.”

She added: “Some signs, like Aquarius, can cut off people very easily, but not Leos. As kings and queens of the jungle, a pride is very important to them. But Leos need to do it when their friends are not being honest with them. Not all friends are truly there for them.”

Virgo

Virgos may want to think about letting go of their burdens in the new year, Low said, after pulling out the “Ten of Wands” card in reverse as well as the “Four of Swords.”

The “Ten of Wands” shows a person carrying sticks when the card is held upright. In reverse however, the person appears to be letting the sticks go.

“In reverse, it’s actually good, because it means the person is slowly letting go of their burdens,” Low said. “This card is probably telling Virgos to not overthink it, and just let stuff go.”

The Four of Swords shows a soldier lying down and appearing exhausted from battle.

“They [Virgos] have been feeling burdened by a lot of things, so they need to let go and focus on what is important to them,” Low said. “Virgos love helping people, but sometimes, you have to realize that you need to choose yourself first.”

Libra

2021 is the year for Libra signs to show the world what they’ve got.

Low picked out “The Magician,” which is linked to a person who can “make things happen and solve difficult problems.”

“So far, Libra signs have been feeling like they couldn’t showcase their skills, they’ve been feeling restricted. Next year, they want to show their magic to the world.”

Scorpio

Low drew out the “Seven of Cups” card for Scorpios, signifying dreams and wishes that have yet to come true.

“This card represents dreams and wishes, but they’re all up in the air,” Low said. “It means that a lot of Scorpios have been wanting to do many things, but they remain just dreams. There is no execution.”

“Scorpios need to stop daydreaming, put some work into their dreams,” Low added, drawing out the “Star Card” from her deck, which also, coincidentally represents dreams.

“Scorpios have felt like their dreams haven’t come true. They can get quite emotional about this, and they need to pull themselves up.”

Sagittarius

For Sagittarius signs in the coming year, they’ll need to choose to do the things they love, Low explained, showing the “Seven of Pentacles” card, which depicts a laboring farmer.

“Maybe throughout the past few years, a lot of Sagittarius has been doing so much work, simply because most people born under this star sign would like to do everything,” Low said. “In the coming year, they’ll need to pick and choose what they want to do.”

Another card from her deck is the “Lovers” card, suggesting that Saggitarius individuals need to choose doing something that they love.

“Instead of doing things for the sake of doing it, Sagittarius will need to choose the things that they love. Even though your logical mind may tell you that you ‘need’ to do something, it’s not always true. Sometimes, holding on to something is more painful than letting it go.”

Capricorn

For Capricorns, 2021 is not the right time to make life-changing decisions.

Low pulled out the “Knight of Swords” card in reverse, which depicts a knight ready to charge into battle. “This tells Capricorns not to be impulsive, since the card is in reverse. It’s not the time to execute big decisions yet.”

Another card from Low’s deck is the “Hanged Man,” which depicts a man hanging by his ankles, his head surrounded by a halo. “This means you may need to get some enlightenment before making decisions. Maybe evaluate the situation after six months to a year.”

Aquarius

Those from the Aquarius sign need to let go of negative thoughts in the coming year, Low explained as she showed the “Eight of Swords” card.

“This card symbolizes a person that feels very scared because he or she thinks they are trapped,” Low said. “Aquarius are guilty of overthinking, we may have trouble sleeping at night. Once you overthink, you start to self-doubt. Free yourself from negative thoughts.”

Another card from Low’s deck was the “Moon” card, which calls for the need to be able to see things more clearly in order to feel less afraid.

“A lot of Aquarius signs may feel afraid because in this card, there’s a moon hiding the sun. But once you bypass the moon, you can see the sun. This means once an Aquarius gets more information on something, they won’t feel so afraid anymore.”

Pisces

For next year, Pisces signs need to learn to communicate better.

“Pisces are known to be emotional creatures,” Low explained, showing the “Two of Cups” card in reverse. “They need to channel their emotions into proper communication and not keep it all in their hearts, and expect people to understand.”

In addition to communication, artistic Pisces people will expect to work with others next year to make their visions come true. Low also picked the “Five of Wands card,” which depicts five people carrying sticks together.

“A lot of them [Pisces] are artists and musicians. Pisces need to learn how to work with the people around them. Learn to work with the people around you to make your artistic ideas and visions happen.”
