Despite the spiraling COVID-19 crisis in Malaysia, beauty pageant organizers have been able to handpick three women to represent the country in various international competitions.

Architecture student Lishalliny Kanaran, 24, from Shah Alam, Selangor has clinched the Miss Grand Malaysia 2021 title, customer advocacy executive Poorani Rajoo, 24, from Kuala Lumpur, is the new Miss Intercontinental Malaysia, and model-fashion designer Malveen Kaur, 27, from Senai, Johor is the reigning Miss Malaysia Globe.

All three of them were expected to join the respective international rounds in the coming months.

“We are extremely proud to welcome the three queens who will assume national responsibility. Amid the ongoing pandemic severity in our country, we were able to continue the selection virtually and hope these ladies will continue their respective good works, especially with the community,” Miss Grand Malaysia National Director Jude Benjamin Lisa said in a press release.

The women were picked out of 23 candidates last month. Lishalliny, who won the title on her third attempt, will go on to compete in Thailand. Poorani will go to Egypt in October, and Malveen will fly to Albania to compete with other women around the world from Oct 26. to Nov. 6.
