It’s not a big deal for countries to be mentioned in video games, but when a small country like Malaysia is referenced, be it in a video game or a movie, it is something to shout about.
Unfortunately, Malaysia’s mention in the hit video game ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ is not the good kind.
In one of the scenes, the protagonist Nathan Drake was seen having a discussion with his wife Elena about a “salvage job off the coast of Malaysia”. And in true ‘Malaysia Boleh’ fashion, Elena managed to get some of her contacts to “work their magic” with the Malaysian permit office – without having to bribe someone!
Gamers who spotted the easter egg in the game promptly uploaded the screenshots onto their social media page – which quickly went viral, by the way – and as a result, Malaysian netizens are having a good laugh.

While the scene above is not something to be proud of, we have to hand it to Naughty Dog, the developers of the ‘Uncharted’ series, for obviously doing their homework and being aware of the whole bribery/corruption thing that’s plaguing the country right now.
But to be fair, there is a chapter in the game called ‘The Malaysia Job’ where the hero was pressured to take the job in Malaysia. The only surprise was; there were no bribes involved?
