After 16 long years of keeping men across the nation preoccupied with pictures of beautiful women (and reading the occasional article), men’s magazine FHM Malaysia will be closing up shop in January.
The magazine’s closure is tied to its parent edition in the United Kingdom being suspended indefinitely by publisher Bauer Media. The last issue of FHM UK will be published this month.
Local publishing partner Astro Digital Publications addressed the news through FHM Malaysia’s Facebook page yesterday:
FHM, which stands for For Him Magazine, was first published in the UK in 1985, and quickly thereafter became one of the most well-regarded “lad mags” in Britain.
However, the end was in sight when FHM UK’s circulation numbers fell in recent years to less than 10% of the 700,000 copies it sold every month in the 2000s.
Aside from Malaysia, FHM has had editions in 27 countries worldwide.
FHM Malaysia’s sister title in Singapore published its last issue in November.
The Malaysian audience thirsty for a list of the 100 Sexiest Women should’t shed too many tears, though: there’s always the Internet.
