A Malaysian singing competition has been postponed after a singer who performed on the show Friday tested positive for COVID-19.

Alif Satar, 30, who was also competing on the show, was found infected a day after his performance. His test results prompted producers to postpone the Muzik-Muzik 35 Semi-Finals show and send dozens of celebrities including host Sherry Alhadad for swab tests.

“For your information, the Muzik-Muzik 35 Semi-Finals will have to be postponed to a future date for safety reasons. A new date will be announced later,” a statement by the TV3 station said yesterday. It had aired its second episode.

The postponement was announced on the same day Alif revealed to his fans that he had contracted the coronavirus.

“In the midst of many shoots, I have undergone a COVID-19 test on Saturday, 21 November, and unfortunately I’ve tested positive for the virus,” the Jangan Nakal (Don’t Be Naughty) singer wrote on Instagram yesterday.

“I’ve notified the authorities about my close contacts for the past 14 days including my family members and colleagues from various shoots,” he said, later adding: “I’m sorry, and I pray that everyone would be safe from the illness.”

Other celebrities who had to take COVID-19 tests include singers Hael Husaini and Stacy Anam. Many wrote to Alif wishing that he would get well soon.

“Both my nostrils were swabbed but it’s okay guys, as long as we’re all safe,” Stacy said. “I hope Alif Satar gets well soon, stay strong!”

“I just did my COVID-19 test at the MSU Hospital in Shah Alam and will be self-quarantining for 14 days,” Sherry, 36, said. “Let’s pray for our friend Alif Satar’s speedy recovery.”

Alif was among 11 contestants who performed on the show Friday. He sang his ballad I Want You To Love Me.
